Introduction

With the continuous promotion and application of new energy vehicles, miniaturization and lightweight of charging facilities will be the future development direction. Some high-performance modified plastic materials such as PPS, PPO, PEEK, as well as other elastomer materials, are likely to be used in the engineering applications of charging facilities.

Charging Pile Housing

The charging pile housing, as the external protective component of the charging pile, needs to meet protection requirements against collisions during transportation, installation, and use. The material used must have certain mechanical strength, electrical insulation, and flame retardant properties, while also having excellent weather resistance, low-temperature impact performance, corrosion resistance, and processability. It is recommended to use halogen-free flame retardant PC materials or halogen-free flame retardant PC alloy materials, such as halogen-free flame retardant PC/ABS, PC/ASA, PC/PBT modified plastics, including combinations using spray-free technology, which can be made in different colors to meet personalized needs for different occasions.

Charging Gun and Connection System

The charging gun and connection system include the charging gun housing and connector. In addition to flame retardancy, electrical insulation, and weather resistance, the charging gun housing also needs to have good rigidity and toughness to prevent damage from falls and vehicle pressure while also maintaining a good appearance. Materials such as halogen-free flame retardant weather-resistant PC and its alloy modified plastics are recommended. For the charging connector, including the socket and plug which directly connect to the conductors, excellent electrical insulation, flame retardancy, and heat resistance are required. To meet the long-term plug and pull life cycle requirements, materials with excellent mechanical properties are needed. The use of halogen-free flame retardant reinforced nylon materials is recommended.

Internal Control System

Components Internal control system components mainly include power modules, contactors, circuit breakers, heat dissipation fans, etc. Referring to materials used in common power systems and low-voltage electrical industries, halogen-free flame retardant reinforced PA or PBT materials can be used. For heat dissipation fans, halogen-free flame retardant reinforced PBT or PPE materials widely used in the IT industry are recommended.

Cable Components

The cables used in charging piles mainly include power cables and signal control cables. The "Electric Vehicle Conductive Charging System Cable Technology Specification" released by the China Quality Certification Center (CQC) provides detailed regulations on the structure, rated voltage, operating temperature, allowable bending radius, and durability of charging pile cables. Polymer materials are mainly applied in the internal sheath and external jacket of cables, where halogen-free flame retardant TPE, TPU can be used for the internal sheath, and PVC, halogen-free flame retardant elastomers can be used for the external jacket.

Conclusion

With the vigorous development of new energy vehicles, charging facilities will also enter a period of rapid growth, and the application of polymer materials in charging facilities will gradually become standardized. As a player in the field of modified plastics, it is necessary to keep pace with the development of new energy vehicles and charging facilities, advance technology reserves in materials, vigorously develop new types of modified plastic materials suitable for charging facilities, and continuously provide comprehensive materials solutions for charging facility equipment.
